 BOclassic COUNTDOWN

Lebid and BOclassic belong together

Since 1990 the BOclassic, the international New Year's Eve Run in Bozen/Bolzano/South Tyrol has been in African hand. Only one European has been able to break this dominance: Serhiy Lebid has avanced as record holder with his five victories. The Ukrainian  darling of the pubic is again coming to Bozen/Bolzano this year. European Champion Arturo Casado and WC fourth Ibtissam Lakhouad launch their debute in this year's BOclassic.

With the two current World champions Imane Merga and Vivian Cheruiyot, BOclassic's 37th edition already obliged two super stars. The ninefold ECCC and BOclassic record holder Serhiy Lebid is also participating. The 36-year-old is an expert for winter runs. Apart from his nine EC-titles in 2001 he also won WC-silver. And, not to forget, he won five times the best cast New Year's Eve Run of the world, the BOclassic.

On the way to his tenth Cross EC gold, he gave up on last Sunday. The reason for this: after an injury, which was inflicted at the beginning of October in Trentino/Italy, the Ukrainian has yet to find his top form. However, until "his" New Year's Run, everything should be okay. Especially in tactical runs, Lebid who is capable of a strong spurt, can completely get in on the run for a podium place. Lebid's balance in Bozen/Bolzano is unique. In his 12 starts in Bozen/Bolzano he was on the podium eight times - nobody can top him on this. 1999 and 2001 until 2004 he even won the run.

Athlete's manager Gianni Demadonna was also lucky enough to obligate Ibtissam Lakouad. The 31-year-old Moroccan was fourth in this year's WC 1500m. Her best time stands with 3:59:35. No other 1500-m-runner was faster than her in 2011. Although Bozen/Bolzano's run holds 5 km, another 1500m-runner celebrated a big triumph here. In 2009, Sonja Roman missed the victory for only two seconds. And talking about 1500m runners: With Arturo Casado the current European Champion launches his debut in Bozen/Bolzano's New Year's Eve Run.

The elite runs of the women (5 km) and of the men (10 km) start at 3 pm. The runs will be broadcasted via Rai Sport 1 (satellite) or internet www.raisport.rai.it
