 BOclassic COUNTDOWN

Two World Champions for the BOclassic

In 2010 the BOclassic was the best cast New Year's Eve Run of the world. The OC plans to come up again to this reputation. Cross world champion imame Merga from ethiopia  is the big star among men's race. With Vivian Cheruiyot, reigning threefold world champion the actualbest female runner of the world is coming too. Today the 37th edition of the Bozen/Bolzano New Year's Eve run was presented in the city hall.

It was in 1975 when several enthusiastic runners of the Läuferclub Bozen were looking for a possibility to be active also during the winter season. Following Sao Paolo's model, the New Year's Eve Run in Bozen/Bolzano was originated. Today, the BOclassic is arguably the best cast New Year's Eve Run in the world. "Bozen's  Waltherplatz will again become South Tyrolean's biggest lounge; we will again bring forth a TOP New Year's Eve Run" said the OC-president Gerhard Warasin during today's presentation.

The signs are good. Athletic manager Gianni Demadonna was able to confirm the participation of both of last years winner. Imame Merga as well as Vivian Cheruiyot are finishing the most successful year of their career. Both won the Cross WC title. At the WC in Daegu, Merga  won the bronze medal over 10,000 m. Furthermore the 23 year old was the overall leader of the 5,000 m of the Diamond League, the Athletic's Champions League. Cheruiyot won the WC's gold double over 5,000 and 10,000 m. Thus the kenyan is currently the worlds number one. It's only  the Olympic medal missing in her collection. "2010 already was BOclassic's best edition ever. And so the event really is the most important new years eve run of the world", says Demadonna. "The engagement of last years winner is an important step towards being top of the world. But it will be difficult to top 2010." Let's see whom Demadonna will present during the next few weeks. About 15,000 spectators will follow the race on the 1.25 km long round course through Bozen/Bolzano's historical centre.
